I found a picture of the hall... The photo-taker is standing on the stage.
Immanuel Lutheran double-booked us for the Dec 1 dance. I was running around like a headless chicken for a while trying to find a place that actually had an availability in December... and then St Mark's called me back. The hall is absolutely gorgeous, and the acoustics are incredible! Unlike Immanuel Lutheran, this hall doesn't come with its own sound system. But I'll sort something out. I found a picture of the hall... The photo-taker is standing on the stage. For future reference, if you know of a space in KC that has a wood floor and is bigger than a living room (I already have one of those, and we outgrew that at my first house party dance), I'd love to build up a list of emergency back-ups. While I'm building up my wish-list, callers and musicians are welcome to call or play a dance anytime! :)

Our first attempt at putting together a dance (October 6) was pretty successful... Now, on to our second!
The anticipated schedule: 6:15-Set up 6:30- go over basics with beginners 6:45-8:30 build up repertoire of simpler dances 8:45-9:30 Intermediate dances which beginners are very welcome to try 9:30- Clean up and say goodbye It's a social sort of dance... I think of it as a larger version of one of my house parties. Thus, edibles are very welcome. Be prepared to meet and dance with new people. Feel free to bring new people! And RSVP if you want a reminder and any updates. Send me your e-mail if you want to be added to the invite list for future dances. Organizing dances is new to me, and as there are currently just two of us putting the dance on, help is very welcome. I'd guesstimate a need for...
If you're not local, give me a heads-up and I'll point you in the direction of people coming from the same city/town if I can. The Jane Austen Society's Harvest Ball was wonderful! Lots of eager dancers showed up... it was quite the crush. There were lovely gowns out on the dance floor, and we even had some fabulously creative outfits from some of the men (I'm definitely advertising the ingenious idea of the baseball pants!). Our JA hosts said they were delighted with the response from the community, and their first ball will not be their last.
They posted a few pictures... http://www.jasnakc.org/Past_Events.html Hm... I don't seem to be in any of them. How do I never end up with a functional camera at these events? Just discovered a blog with a few more pictures when I was looking up something... http://defeatingdragons.wordpress.com/2012/10/22/2012-kansas-city-jane-austen-ball/ |
